It made consumers into producers. Changed centralised to distributed systems and platforms. Jumped over and dis-intermediated players and sectors, creating new ones. Converging markets, industries and technologies, creating networks of networks…and then amazing new applications and new ways of doing the old things.
In renewable energy the unmistakable parallels are all there and some new twists. Consumers become producers of distributed renewable energy. New platforms are needed to capture and shift that value, often away from incumbent players that do not move enough in time.
Clearly the winners are going to be a mix of the incumbents who do change and new entities that are creatures of creation. For these, network ROI multiples can be achieved on investments.
